HAMILTON – Jody Barefield walked into court wearing a black T-shirt with her brother’s picture on it. Her nails were painted in sparkles to match the glittering "R.I.P." on her shirt, but she looked tired.

Before her brother was shot and killed, Jody had two jobs. A week after his death, she got a third. She had no other choice.

Shortly after the preliminary hearing into her brother's death started, and lawyers began arguing, it was delayed another week. Jody frowned and shook her head. The judge said this would be the last delay and told the courtroom he knew everyone wanted to get this over with. 

He had no idea...
